Sisters

A sister can be seen as someone who is both ourselves and very much not ourselves - a special kind of double. ~Toni Morrison

Three is the Magic Number

Um...who ever said this has not had a 3 year old (okay, I know it was a song about recycling and from Schoolhouse Rock but still). And the "Terrible Twos" was coined by someone whose child had yet to reach 3. Just saying....

4 months!

Penelope is officially 4 months now. The time is flying by and we are enjoying every minute with her. She is a happy baby and has a smile and giggle for everyone, but especially her sister. At her 4 month exam she was 12.5 lbs and 24 inches. She is a peanut compared to her sister who at that age was 14 lb 14 ounces (a full 2.5 lbs bigger....I did the math for you). Penelope is still in 0-3 month clothes and is often mistaken for a newborn out on the street (thereby getting praises for how alert she is and how advanced...we'll take it)! She fortunately is excelling in her milestones, most likely due to the fact that it is really easy to roll over when there isn't much to bring along! She is also trying to sit up and can actually do it (albeit slightly hunched forward) for a second or two before toppling.
She loves to chew on fingers...hers, mine, Daddy's.

This is her..."you ain't fooling me" look. She is on to us!

Smiling drool monster!

Dog Days of Summer

The humidity finally broke, the temps dropped (to mid-70s), and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. We seized the opportunity and got lots of outdoor time.

Georgia getting her climb on at the Tot Lot.

Georgia and Penelope posing next to the Biggest Dog in Town sculpture exhibit.

Georgia "feeding" the ducks. And by feeding, I mean throwing rocks at them. Due to poor aim and short throws, no ducks were injured during these activities. In order to buy time until dinner, the super mother that I am allowed her to throw rocks for about 20 minutes.

Lil P is a busy body and doesn't miss a beat. Nice hairdo by the way.

Georgia resting on the bench. This activity may also be referred to as "delaying the return home", "dwaddling" or "being stubborn".

You can tell a Huckins Girl...

about a mile away! Penelope and I went up to Camp Huckins to celebrate Jody Skelton's 40th year at camp! Quite an accomplishment. We got to see "Borowski", the author of WeAreOK , and little Kiernan (the K part of OK and potentially Penelope's future suitor). It was great seeing old friends, counselors, and campers. The lake was warm and the perfect respite from the humidity. The new chapel is GORGEOUS!!!! I wish it had been there when I was a camper!

Tech Baby

Penelope loves her Mama's iphone. Who wouldn't when it has fun games, movies, music, and best of all your picture as the screensaver?

Crazy Hot

Despite it being crazy hot, someone still loves to wear her winter PJs. In case you haven't met her, there is NO rationalizing with this girl. We are really looking forward to ages 12-16.

Little Oasis

It has been in the high 90s here the past few days. So after a super exciting run (honestly, I am that point in my life) to the new Target (love it love it love it) where there was no summer stuff to be found (darn you back to school display), I draggged two hot, sweaty kids and myself to the sketchiest Walmart in the US to buy a kiddie pool. It was worth the hour of disinfecting required after a visit to that Walmart (just kidding, sort of). It has been a big hit and was only improved by creating a makeshift waterslide!

Yes, our back patio resembles a little bit of Appalachia/trailer park...

When I got home from work yesterday, Georgia wouldn't wait to even put a bathing suit on before she was in the pool.
And again at 8:30 this morning (hey it was already in the 80s)!

A happy girl snacking on Trader Joe Graham Crackers (the BEST I have ever had...perfect for s'mores) after 2 hours in the pool (which was promptly followed by another 30 minutes, a 3 hour nap, and another hour in the pool). Georgia is starting to resemble a prune!

Big Girl

As Penelope is approaching 4 months (what!! where did the time go?!?), she is becoming more and more independent (this one is going to be trouble, really). She really wants to sit up (and frankly, she is pretty darn good at it for her age...she only needs a little support). Forget the Bumbo, she wants to be on the couch with her big sister!

Photo Shoot

Trying to get a nice picture of the girls with Daddy is harder than we thought it would be. Here are the outtakes, though that may be a misnomer since there wasn't a keeper out of all of them(and I took over 50 shots).

Saucy

Lil P has a favorite new toy! She loves sitting up like a big girl and playing with the different toys on the exersaucer. Georgia, however, did not enjoy giving up her "seat".

Yankee Homecoming Parade

We had a great time watching the parade today. There were tons of firetrucks, a marching band, and multiple pipe and drum bands.
Big Firetrucks (all blaring their sirens the WHOLE time)
A Big Dino Float.

Georgia took the camera and got the 4th picture of me in 2009 (the downfall of being the photographer in the family). It may be the BEST one in 2009. Hooray for the budding photographer!

A colonial fife and drum band.
An old fashion engine.

The tricked out Special Operation Sheriff's truck. So cool.

Georgia and Daddy enjoying the parade.

Mama and the P (she is the overtired one who was woken from her nap by the 80 firetrucks that were blaring their engines about 20 feet from her bedroom window).

A cool Pipe and Drum band.
